“A Healthy First Year”
It’s the job of every owner to keep his or her dog healthy and safe. So, it’s important to learn a little about things like grooming, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and first aid.
The most common health concerns for dogs and their owners are things like ear infections, fleas and ticks, internal parasites, skin infections and intestinal problems. Veterinarians see these conditions all the time and should be able to treat the symptoms or instruct you on how to deal with the problem. However, you may be surprised to learn that dogs can also suffer from some of the same ailments and diseases that we do. Unfortunately things like diabetes, cancer and arthritis can all occur in canines and as they age it’s important look out for any symptoms that can signal a serious illness.
Thankfully, serious health issues aren’t common concerns for a new puppy owner. Their primary concern is to take their new friend in to see the vet and look after getting them immunized against things like rabies, distemper, parvovirus and hepatitis. After that dog owners can help keep their new friend happy and healthy with regular grooming, good nutrition, parasite prevention and yearly veterinary check-ups.
